Individual Therapy

My approach to therapy

Sometimes it is not that you are failing. It is that you have been carrying too much for too long.

I work with adults in Southampton and online who feel stuck, overwhelmed or quietly exhausted. Many of the people I see are living with the impact of trauma, navigating neurodivergence in a world that was not built with them in mind, or running on empty after years of pushing through burnout.

Therapy with me is not about fixing you. It is about understanding what has happened, how your nervous system has adapted, and what you need now. I draw on EMDR, parts work, compassion focused therapy and somatic approaches, paying attention not just to thoughts, but to patterns, memories, emotions and the body. We move at your pace. Nothing is forced or rushed.

Some sessions might involve gently reprocessing difficult experiences. Some might focus on understanding your nervous system and finding steadier ground. Some might simply be a space where you can speak honestly without having to explain yourself.

Above all, therapy here is warm and human. You do not need to present a polished version of yourself. You do not need to justify why things feel hard. We start where you are.

What I can help with

I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties and periods of change or uncertainty. While therapy is always shaped around the individual, there are three areas I have particular experience and specialist interest in: trauma, burnout and neurodivergence.

Trauma & Difficult Experiences

For adults living with the impact of trauma, including PTSD, complex PTSD, difficult or overwhelming experiences, and patterns that continue to affect how you feel, relate and respond in the present. I offer EMDR therapy alongside other trauma-informed approaches, depending on what feels most appropriate for you.

Burnout & Overwhelm

Support for people who feel depleted, overwhelmed or as though they have been pushing through for too long. This can include workplace burnout, chronic stress and neurodivergent burnout, with a focus on understanding what has led here and finding a more sustainable way forward.

Neurodivergence

Therapy that takes account of autism, ADHD and different ways of experiencing the world. This might include exploring or understanding your neurodivergence, masking, relationships, emotional regulation, identity, overwhelm or navigating environments that have not always fitted your needs.

There is no single approach that works for everyone. Therapy is tailored to you, drawing on different psychological approaches depending on what you are experiencing, what feels helpful and what you want to change.

EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychological therapy used to treat trauma, PTSD and other difficult or overwhelming experiences. It can be particularly helpful when you understand what has happened intellectually, but your body, emotions or nervous system still react as though the experience is happening now.

Parts Work
Sometimes different parts of us can seem to want very different things, one part pushing on while another feels exhausted, overwhelmed or frightened. I use parts-based approaches alongside EMDR and other therapy to help make sense of these responses with curiosity and compassion, and find different ways of responding when they show up.

Compassion Focused Therapy
CFT is particularly helpful for people who experience high levels of self-criticism, shame or a sense of never being good enough. It focuses on understanding where these patterns come from and developing a more compassionate way of relating to yourself, especially when things are difficult.

Somatic Approaches
Stress and difficult experiences are not only experienced through thoughts, they can also show up in the body. I integrate somatic approaches into therapy to help you notice and understand these responses, build a greater sense of safety and regulation, and work with what your body may be communicating.
